The Story of the Three Sisters

Once upon a time, there were three sisters: Davita, Petra, and Simona. They lived in a small house with their mother, but as they grew from girls into young women, the house became too small for them. Their mother said, "My dear daughters, it is time for you to find your own path. I will give each of you a bag filled with gold coins. You may spend them as you wish, but if you are wise like your father, you will use them to build a new home for yourselves."

The girls kissed their mother goodbye and, with the money in their pockets, set out to find a new place to live. Soon, they came across a meadow in the forest with enough space to build three houses.

Davita, the oldest, looked around eagerly and said, "Look at all this wood!" She ran from tree to tree, imagining how her house made from these thin branches would look.

Simona, the youngest, objected, "But Davita, a house made of branches won’t be very strong. You'll have to repair it every time there’s a storm."

Davita shrugged and said, "Yes, but it will only cost me time, and I can get all the wood from the forest. I’ll still have money left to buy some beautiful clothes and the best horse I can find. I’ll be famous." So, Davita began gathering sticks and branches to build her house. Although her sisters thought it was a bad idea, they helped her, as sisters usually do. In no time, Davita had her own house on the meadow, and even Simona admitted that it was beautiful.

Now Petra started looking for materials to build her house. Since Davita had taken most of the wood, Petra decided to use the straw and grass that covered the meadow. When Davita saw her younger sister on her hands and knees gathering grass, she laughed, saying, "Straw isn’t strong enough for a house. My house is made of wood, so it will be strong and sturdy. One puff of wind and everything will collapse."

Petra looked at her sister and said, "But my house will be beautiful and warm because the grass will fill all the gaps. Your wooden house will let in the cold and rain." She noticed that the sun was beginning to set. "Will you help us build my house?"

Davita shook her head and said, "No, I’m going to the market to buy the most beautiful horse and some lovely clothes. Build your own house." She took the bag of coins her mother had given her and headed toward the city.

Simona sighed, as darkness had fallen and she hadn’t even started on her house. She worked hard with Petra to finish the house made of straw and thatch, and finally, by the light of the moon, Petra’s house was complete.

"I’ll have to sleep in your house tonight, Petra," said Simona. "It’s dark now and I need to buy materials to build my own house. We can get a good rest tonight, and tomorrow morning we can go together to buy some bricks."

But Petra shook her head and said, "There’s no room for you in my house. I built a small, cozy house so there wouldn’t be space for anyone else."

Simona was shocked. She had spent the whole day gathering wood for Davita, and straw and grass for Petra, and now, when she needed a place to sleep, her sister wouldn’t let her stay.

"I’ll wait for Davita to come back. Her house is big enough for at least two people." But when Davita returned after several hours, she was not alone. She was riding a beautiful white horse and was accompanied by two other girls, all dressed in beautiful clothes.

"These are my friends, Simona. I met them in town. Aren’t they lovely in these clothes I bought for them? It’s time to sleep. See you in the morning." Davita closed her front door, leaving Simona standing alone outside.

Simona looked around, but there was no wood left to build a shelter, no straw or grass to make a bed, so she lay down on the cold, hard ground. Despite being uncomfortable and cold, she fell into a deep sleep because she had worked hard to help her sisters.

The next day would be a happy one, as she planned to take her sisters to the market to buy bricks for her house. The next morning, Simona woke up early, just as the sun was rising. She called to Petra and Davita, hoping for an early start. There was no response from Petra’s house, so Simona went to Davita’s house and knocked on the door.

Her sister answered and told her that Petra had gone to the market to buy some new, wonderful furniture and to see if she could find some friends as well. Simona was upset with her sisters – she needed their help, and now she would have to go alone to buy the things she needed to build her house. But Davita had other plans.

"Simona, I can’t go with you today. I’m busy organizing my new clothes and taking care of my horse. You can go by yourself."

Simona felt very disappointed, but she decided not to give up. She went to the market and bought some bricks, then returned to the meadow and began building her house on her own. She worked diligently without stopping, and by the end of the day, she had the foundation of a strong brick house.

Despite her exhaustion, she felt proud of what she had accomplished. She knew her house would be strong and sturdy and would not be affected by storms. She continued working for several days until her house was complete.

One day, while the three sisters were in their own houses, a powerful storm approached the meadow. The wind started to blow fiercely, and Davita’s house made of branches swayed violently. Eventually, the branches broke and scattered everywhere, forcing Davita and her friends to quickly flee to Petra’s house.

But Petra’s house made of straw and grass could not withstand the strong storm either. The house collapsed, and Petra and her sisters had to run for shelter. They remembered Simona’s brick house and decided to go there for safety.

Davita and Petra reached Simona’s house and knocked on the door. Simona opened the door and saw her tired and soaked sisters. Despite everything, Simona could not ignore their need for help.

"Come in quickly!" said Simona warmly. Davita and Petra entered and thanked Simona gratefully. "Thank you, Simona. You’ve always been a wonderful sister."

Simona smiled and said, "We need to learn from this experience. Cooperation and wisdom can create miracles. Let’s come together and build strong houses for all of us."

Everyone agreed and began working together to build new and sturdy houses for each of them. Over time, the three sisters learned the value of cooperation and wisdom. They lived happily and peacefully in their new homes, having learned that true strength lies in working together and supporting each other.
