The Magical Mirror

Once upon a time, there was a wealthy woman named Lutzidutch who lived in a grand house on the finest street in Darrendorf, the royal residence of the Gildenshtein family. No one knew how Duchess Lutzidutch had become so rich or how she had become a baroness. But no one really cared about that. All that people knew and cared about was that she had more money than she knew what to do with.

The baroness’s life and everything about her were somewhat mysterious, and no one inquired deeply into it. Well, the baroness had a maid named Mila Netiniple. Mila was from the local class, fairly beautiful, and a diligent worker. She had dreams, which could be dangerous. She dreamed of one day owning her own home and having a wealthy husband who would allow her to live comfortably.

One day, while Mila was doing chores upstairs, she noticed the baroness sitting in her room, facing a large, oval, spinning mirror placed on her dressing table. The baroness was looking glumly at an unsightly red spot on the tip of her nose.

“Oh, I wish this red spot would disappear,” said the baroness. And just like that, it did! Mila was astonished.

“And I’m so hungry,” the baroness murmured again. “I wish I had a sausage sandwich.” And so, a sausage sandwich appeared on a plate next to her elbow on the dressing table, just as the baroness liked her sandwiches.

“A magical mirror!” Mila whispered. “A mirror that grants all your wishes, just like in fairy tales.” Mila could certainly benefit from something like this.

“A magical mirror, you say?” Mila told Hans, the baroness’s handsome servant, while they were sitting in the kitchen drinking tea.

“Oh, I don’t know…” Hans replied. “A magical mirror… I don’t think that makes sense.”

Mila stamped her foot on the ground and slapped the table with her hands, showing her frustration. “It’s the truth. I saw it with my own eyes. She wished for the spot to disappear, and it did. She wished for a sausage sandwich, and suddenly... the sandwich appeared on the table.”

Hans still doubted it, “Are you sure the sandwich wasn’t there before, and you just didn’t see it? Are you sure she didn’t use some concealer to hide the spot?”

Mila sighed, her patience wearing thin. “I’ll prove it to you. I’ll try the mirror myself.”

Hans set down his tea and said, “Oh, I wouldn’t do that!” He was taken with Mila and didn’t want her to get into trouble. “The baroness wouldn’t tolerate you meddling with her possessions. You know how she is. I don’t want you to get accused or dismissed.” He said bashfully. Mila smiled, as she had thought of that too.

“Then I’ll wait until she goes out next time,” Mila explained.

Three days later, Mila got her chance. The baroness had decided she needed new gloves and went out to a glove maker to order a pair. Mila knew the baroness liked to spend the day on short errands and might visit the shoemaker and the tailor, and have her morning coffee at the grand hotel, staying out for hours.

Mila sneaked into the baroness’s room as soon as she left. She stood in front of the magical mirror and hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Magical mirror, I wish to be rich and beautiful.”

Suddenly, Mila felt a strange change. She looked at herself in the mirror and saw that she was wearing an elegant dress and sparkling jewelry, looking more beautiful than ever. She couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Oh, this is amazing!” Mila exclaimed with joy.

But she didn’t stop there. She began wishing for more things. “Magical mirror, I wish to have a grand castle and a magnificent garden.” And so, a grand castle appeared behind her in the mirror, and a beautiful garden full of flowers.

But as time passed, Mila began to feel anxious. She knew the baroness would not be happy if she discovered what had happened. So she decided to return to her natural state before the baroness came back.

“Magical mirror, I wish to return to what I was.” And so, Mila returned to her simple clothes and old appearance.

When the baroness returned home, she didn’t notice anything strange. But Mila knew she had a secret weapon she could use if needed. She decided to use the mirror wisely and not excessively to avoid arousing the baroness’s suspicions.

From that day on, Mila lived a much better life. She used the mirror to fulfill her small wishes and improve her life and the lives of those around her. She became loved by everyone and an example of goodness and wisdom.
